Super Moon of the Year 2016

Image result for super moon in 2016

I was reading with interest about Super Moon 2016  for the past few days in the messages posted in WhatsApp and Face book Group. I herewith share the details about the concept of Super Moon, when, where and how to see it etc., and also share the photographs of Super Moon taken by me from my balcony on 11th floor of my Apartment building in Chennai.

What is a supermoon?
supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth–Moon–Sun system

The opposite phenomenon, an apogee-syzygy, has been called a micromoon
Ever looked up at the night sky to see a full moon so close you could almost touch it? Well done, you've spotted a supermoon.
The impressive sight happens when a full moon is closest to Earth. It orbits our planet in an oval shape so sometimes it comes closer to us than at other times. To us Earth-lings, the moon appears 30 per cent brighter and 14 per cent bigger.

How can we see it?

The best time to view it  will be when the sun is setting in the late afternoon. The closer to the horizon it is, the bigger it will appear.
Pick a place with the least light pollution. Paul Thomsett, chairman of the South East Kent Astronomical Society said: "As long as the skies are clear and you have a good view to the south you will have no trouble seeing our nearest celestial neighbour blazing in the night sky."
Super Moon for the year 2016:
This year, the full moons of October, November and December all take place when the moon is at its closest point of approach in its orbit around Earth — a so-called supermoon.
The Super Moon on 14.11.16 ,the second of three consecutive supermoon full moons for 2016 was not only the closest and brightest supermoon of 2016 but also the largest since 1948, Bob Berman, an astronomer at the Slooh Community Observatory, told Space.com. What's more, the full moon won't come this close to Earth again until Nov. 25, 2034, according to a statement from NASA
Now I am sharing the pictures of the Normal Moon  seen on 13.11.16 and the Super Moon seen on 14.11.16 from the balcony of our Apartment in Chennai. The photos were taken with my One plus X mobile.
